A different sort of appeal than Howard Shore, but still so good (or at least entrenched from my childhood) it can give me chills.

I enjoy the Peter Jackson Hobbit much more by envisioning it as the ludicrous over-the-top and highly fictionalized telling of the story coming from a drunk bard in a tavern in the real Middle Earth.

“And then, d’ye ken, he jumped on the BARREL! Like THIS! *swoosh*, *swoosh*!”

It neatly ties in the out-of-nowhere “romance” scenes, the theatrical out of place swashbuckling... not to mention the larger-than-life caricature personalities - Stephen Fry as the lord of Laketown, etc.

I have read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings more times than I can count. I have yet to make it all the way through Jackson’s Hobbitpalooza. It should have been titled, “The Hobbit: Or there’s that book that Tolkien wrote over there, but we’re making a bunch of shit up so we can sell three movies.”
